Exploring The Blues 7.0: Getting In The Groove (Mondays)
Last year we worked hard on a variety of blues classics like Baby Please Don’t Go, Walkin’ Blues, Built For Comfort and Let The Good Times Roll.
Each week we work on chord shapes, bass runs, inversions, fills, rhythm and soloing. In the soloing component of the class, we learn scales, phrasing and licks. We also explore ear training and learn how to count time more precisely. There is plenty of jamming!
The material is geared to intermediate players (you can play smoothly through chord progressions like E-A-B, C-F-G, etc.) and advanced players (you’ve tried some soloing and want to make it coherent).
As always, I’ll include:
- A teaching video that demonstrates various techniques at the basic, intermediate and advanced skill levels
- A play-along mp3 track
- An instructional chart
Note reading isn’t a requirement and all skill levels are welcome.
You can view a video sampler of the tunes and techniques we covered in the 2016 – 2017 terms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTXTmaXGrZE
