Instructor: Terry Hoffman
Date: Mondays, October 1st - November 5th (no class Oct.8, last class TBD)
Time: 7:30 pm
Price: $125, early bird discount is available*
In the Spring term, we played some classic tunes: St. James Infirmary, Flip, Flop and Fly, Work Song¸ among them. We explored the fretboard, learning a bit more about scales that help build good solos and some easy licks to spice up solos.
In the new term we’ll explore 3 more great tunes – each for two weeks – and continue to work on building a fuller blues vocabulary.
Each class includes a dedicated soloing component, where we will work on scales, licks, phrasing, and lots of jamming. We’ll also work on an variety of chord shapes, bass runs, grace notes and fills, etc.
As always, I’ll include:
- a teaching video that demonstrates various techniques at the basic, intermediate and advanced skill levels
- a play-along mp3 track
- an instructional chart
- extension material for advanced students
Note reading isn’t a requirement and material is suitable for intermediate and advanced players (intermediate means being able to play through three-chord progressions, i.e. C-F-G, E-A-B, etc). Mandolin players are welcome!
You can view a video sampler of the tunes and techniques we covered in the 2017 – 2018 terms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0QEAX1zkZ0
